Traditional Carmen

Thursday, October 29th, 2015

Difficulty Level: Medium-Easy, Grade 3

Style: Arrangements of Classic Bizet Melodies

Original Arrangements by Tim Hinton

Prelude / Habanera / Danse Boheme / Entre'acte (Prelude to Act III) / Toreador Song / Finale

These selections from the classic Bizet score have a strong Spanish flavor that audiences love.  These are fairly straight-forward renditions making this a more traditional but tuneful show.

Tim Purple Shirt squareI know these midi recordings are pretty terrible, but if you're looking for a show to make any group sound big…with tunes that audiences know and love, this could be the show for you.  When listening to these bad computer versions, note that the piano is playing the front ensemble parts, and any repeated notes are drum breaks.  Use your imagination and you can see how a young band could sound great.  This show is scored for big sounds! NOTE: If you use this music, I am willing to help you pay for the drum parts!  Send me a note for more info (at the bottom of this page.)

Fee for the use of the music for the season:
Wind Parts Only – $1000  /  Individual Movements – $250 each

Confetti Explosion / Colors / Settlement

The original music of this show begins by depicting the energy and excitement when confetti is first thrown into the air.  The ballad explores all of the colors, and then the closer depicts the confetti settling and falling to the ground before ending in one last explosion of energy and color.

Tim Purple Shirt squareNOTE: I feel this is very strong music and I want to remind you that you could use this music and put MANY different show concepts and themes to it.  Be creative and use your imagination!  This music would be great for a young or small group wanting to sound big and solid and professional.

It’s a Stretch

Thursday, October 29th, 2015

Difficulty Level: Medium-Easy, Grade 3

Style: Contemporary Symphonic Music with jazzy moments

Original Music Composed by Tim Hinton

(Originally commissioned by the  Clinton H.S. Band, Clinton, NC, John Lowe, Director)

This show of original music explores everything "stretchy." The musical lines and phrases stretch and extend in interesting ways, and the visual possibilities are endless, from a warm-up body stretch to drill forms and guard props & equipment which stretch and bend.

Tim Purple Shirt squareOkay, I know that these midi recordings are awful!  The piano sound is for the front ensemble music, and the repeated notes are where you must imagine cool drum breaks!  But even with these limitations, I encourage you to use your imagination and consider the solid, playable melodies and impacts.  Some good drum writing could bring the energy of this show to life.  I also wrote the drill for the original production of this show, and it was great fun to bend and stretch forms all over the field to match the music…plus all the fun with guard props and even flagpoles that bent and stretched also.  Imagine what you could do! NOTE: If you perform this show and use my percussion writer, I will help pay to get great percussion parts written!

New Orleans Sketches

Thursday, October 29th, 2015

Difficulty Level: Medium-Easy, Grade 3 – 4

Style: Original Arrangement with Symphonic and Jazzy sections

Original Compostion by Tim Hinton

Percussion Music by Gregg Havey

(Originally commissioned by the Archbishop Alter H.S. Band, Kettering, OH – Todd Tucker, Director)

This original arrangement combines classic New Orleans tunes like “When the Saints” and “Down by the Riverside” with “Amazing Grace” and original music, all tied together using the gorgeous “Pavane” by Faure.  We first “set the scene,” then explore the danger of the dark corners of the city, look for salvation during the ballad, and end with a celebration of the city.  Written for a very small group, this show is very playable, has a lot of character, and is full of visual possibilities and audience appeal.

Difficulty Level: Medium-Easy, Grade 3

Style: Original Composition in a Contemporary Style

Original Music by Tim Hinton

Percussion Music Available from Clif Walker

(Originally commissioned by the Woodruff HS Band, Woodruff, SC, Barry Wash, Director)

A show about road signs with very playable original music and easy visual interest.  Traffic signs with arrows lead to street signs for the ballad, then construction signs for the percussion feature, ending with a frenzy as the Speed Limit hits 200 mph!  Clever use of signs throughout the show leads the band visually and “directs the traffic” of the drill!

NOTE: Guard costume and flag designs used in this show are available. (See video below.)  Some props and equipment from the original production may be available!  Inquire ASAP for info.

Fee for the use of the music for the season:

Babylon

Wednesday, October 28th, 2015

Difficulty Level: Medium-Easy, Grade 3-4

Style: Original Composition in a Symphonic Style, with a Middle-Eastern flair

Original Composition by Tim Hinton

(Originally commissioned by the Clinton H.S. Band, Clinton, SC – David Richards, Director)

Tim Purple Shirt squareThe computer recording of this show is really pretty awful, but I really believe in this show so I'm still presenting it here. Use your imagination as you listen, as these Middle Eastern sounds always resonate with audiences!  NOTE: If you perform this show and use my percussion writer, I will help pay to get great percussion parts written!

Exotic and yet familiar, this strongly themed music describes the Culture, Beauty, and Strength of Babylon, allowing for easy visual theming. The show of original music opens with a dramatic flute solo (playable by many instruments also) which builds to the statement of the main theme of the show. The opener features classic middle-eastern sounding music which describes the excitement and energy of the Babylonian culture. The music is very playable by young students, utilizing carefully planned solos to add technical brilliance to the book. The ballad features the return of the flute soloist, again playable by other instruments if needed, and represents the beauty of the famous Gardens of Babylon. The closing music portrays the famous Ishtar Gate and the strength of the culture and people of Babylon.

Fee for use of Music: Winds Parts – $1000
