Difficulty Level: Medium-Advanced, Grade 4-5

Style: Contemporary Arrangements of Classical Music

Arranged by Tim Hinton

Percussion Music by Brian Gill

Originally commissioned by the Lone Star H.S. Band, Frisco, TX – Tim Golden, Director.

New for 2018! Spectacular and Sophisticated!  Music by the masters presented in unexpected ways.  Rachmaninoff and Bach combine and interweave in the opening production, using Bach Invention No. 4 in D Minor and Rachmaninoff Prelude in C-Sharp Minor.  The ballad is the gorgeous "Emmanuel" by Colombier, and closing production is music from "Rite of Spring" by Stravinsky.  Challenging, tuneful, dramatic, and cutting edge!

Tim Purple Shirt squareNOTE: "Emmanuel" by Colombier requires Copyright Permission to perform.  If you want to perform this selection, contact me (at the bottom of this page) and I will explain to you how to proceed with requesting the permission to perform that music.  There is no guarantee that the rights will be granted again, though the chances are good.  The band program is responsible for securing the rights and paying all fees associated with them.  The rest of this show does not require copyright permission and I have  many other wonderful ballads you can use instead of "Emmanuel" if you want to avoid these issues.

A Change of Tone

Monday, October 31st, 2016

Difficulty Level: Medium, Grade 4

Style: Contemporary Arrangements of Classical Music

Arranged by Tim Hinton

Percussion Music by John Cypert

Originally commissioned by the Whitewater H.S. Band, Fayetteville, GA – Jack Jean, Director.

A great concept with a clever musical twist!  Very famous, recognization, audience-friendly classical melodies are played and then "transformed" to a different tone!  Happy "major" melodies like "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" or "Beethoven's 9th" shift to a dark, minor tone.  Famous "minor" melodies like "Night on Bald Mountain" become a gorgeous lush ballad in a major key!  Audiences and judges feel smart as the hear the tonality shift throughout the show.  Review from a fan: "I loved your show; it was the best concept I've ever seen from any marching band (including drum corps), and you guys executed it very well! I really enjoyed your music selection and transitions to parallel keys; it was very interesting and extremely effective (along with the unique solos and duets) at creating a change in tone. Congratulations to you and whoever else helped in creating that show, and congratulations to your amazing band!"

Dark Spanish

Thursday, October 29th, 2015

Difficulty Level: Medium, Grade 4

Style: Original Composition in a Symphonic Style, based on music by Albeniz and Bizet

Original Composition by Tim Hinton

Percussion Music by Clif Walker

(Originally commissioned by the Chapin H.S. Band, Chapin, SC – Kevin Hebert, Director)

Strong, Dark, and Powerful.  Using music from “Iberia” by Albeniz and “Carmen” by Bizet, this show transforms these melodies in a contemporary and innovative way.  A dark and dramatic opening leads to an exciting and energetic opener.  The haunting ballad features a horn duet (playable by almost any two instruments) and two great impact moments.  A unique treatment of the famous “Habanera” leads us into a frantic drum solo and conclusion as the themes from “Iberia” return to end the show.

Fee for the use of the music for the season:
Winds and Percussion – $2000
